Sales and Marketing Mentor in Zambia

Chodort Training Centre (CTC)is a vocational training college set up by the United Church of Zambia (UCZ). It was established to help vulnerable young people in and around Choma which is in the Southern Province of Zambia to learn a trade, allowing them to seek paid employment or earn a living from self employment. As part of Centre activities a number of income generating ventures, employing previous trainees have been set up to help to make the training centre more financially self reliant. These income generating activities include a carpentry unit and a tailoring workshop. It is the aim of the Centre management team to reduce the reliance on external funders and become more self reliant financially.

Although the carpentry unit is frequently busy it has not been able to generate meaningful profits until recently. Similarly the tailoring project should be making greater inroads into the community than it is currently.

In November 2011 Choma became the Provincial Capital of the Southern Province. This resulted in increased business opportunities and an increase in the demand for vocational training courses. Chodort plans to expand the range of courses it offers in 2015.

The training centre is seeking an individual to mentor staff to develop a sales and marketing strategy and develop a marketing plan for vocational courses and also for their small business ventures. They will support the CTC team to evaluate historic and current business performance, market conditions and opportunities, staff structure and skills, and any other relevant factors necessary for the team to put a marketing strategy and marketing plan in place which they can use to grow their business activities and the range of vocational courses on offer.

The role of the Challenges Worldwide (CW) mentor will be to work with, and mentor the staff at CTC to enable them to better market the variety of products they produce as well as to better market the college courses to attract students who will use the program to its fullest potential. Additionally, the CW mentor will work with the staff to consider other actions that would enable the training centre to become self sufficient, sustainable, and growth focused. Key areas of work will be the development of a sales and marketing plan as well as evaluating the viability of expansion and sustainability

The assignment will be undertaken at Chodort Training Centre (CTC)

Located in Choma, Southern Province, Zambia

The assignment will be supported by the Church of Scotland.
