Meet the Enterprises: Kumasi, Summer 2017

We have had a team of Business Support Associates working to support enterprises across Kumasi, Ghana since June.  Here are the exciting businesses that we hope to take from investment readiness to investment worthiness.

Anin Blaq

Anin Blaq has been running for two and a half years. The CEO, Richard, has a big vision to expand the business further with help from Challenges Worldwide. This enterprise falls under the manufacturing industry and offers products such as shoes, wallets and belts. These are all made on site by skilled staff, some of whom have come from less privileged backgrounds and have been given free training to earn themselves a decent living. Growing and developing the business is part of the CEO’s vision to increase employment opportunities in Ghana.

 

K. Asante Farms

K Asante Farms

K. Asante is a family run farm which has been in operation for 14 years. Their main products are layer hens, broilers, eggs and pigs. In addition, they grow oranges and are potentially looking to expand into mushroom and rabbit farming. The business is looking to see what opportunities Challenges can help them identify to further grow and develop, with a focus on bookkeeping and marketing.

 

Eldad Catering Services

Eldad Catering

Eldad Catering has been in operation since 1997 and is run by Mr and Mrs Mensah, who have an impressive 20 years’ experience between them in the hospitality industry. They provide catering services for organised events such as graduation ceremonies and weddings, as well as a wide array of products which include bread, pastries, plantain chips and jam rolls. The business has ambitions to export products to Europe and open a local pastry shop, whilst also finding a more efficient and environmentally friendly way to deal with waste.

 

Firm Nuts

Firm Nuts

Firm Nuts has been in operation since 2011 and offers products such as roasted groundnuts (peanuts), groundnut paste and honey. They aim to promote and produce affordable, natural products whilst encouraging the employment of young women. Firm Nuts hope to increase their presence in the market, improve their bookkeeping and establish a good organisational structure to nurture future growth.

 

GloryJo Ventures

GloryJo Ventures

GloryJo is a fish farm which has been in operation for the past 8 years. Fish such as Tilapia and Catfish are their main products, which they farm and sell to the local market. They are looking forward to seeing how Challenges can help them identify opportunities to further grow and develop the business, particularly with providing fish feed to other fish farms in the area. Establishing a record keeping system and finishing the construction of fish feed machinery are key immediate goals.

 

MaxGold Ghana

MaxGold

MaxGold operates in the technology industry, offering key products and services such as app development and training in app creation. It is a Sole Proprietorship which has been providing training to young people and university students over the past two years. Key goals are to put in place an accounting system to keep track of cash flow and to increase their marketing presence to promote their products and services.

 

TRAMO

TRAMO

TRAMO, which stands for Trash Recycling And Management Organisation, has been in operation for 4 years. They are currently focussing on increasing clientele, diversifying revenue streams, undertaking sustainable market research, and raising awareness of waste management within business operations.

 

Sarai with Pride

Sarai With Pride

Sarai with Pride is a clothing fashion company which offers unisex fashion from selected fabrics. Having operated for the past 3 years, the business hopes to expand to meet customer demand and increase apprenticeship opportunities, where skills such as learning how to sew and make clothes can be offered to employees.

 

Cockney & Carrington (Learn Again Foundation)

Cockney & Carrington (Learn Again Foundation)

Learn Again Foundation (operating under Cockney & Carrington) is a computer training enterprise with the mission to provide professional IT training to young people. Their services include coding and computer training for teachers and schools. Learn Again is looking forward to increasing their online presence, adopting an improved marketing strategy and increasing inclusion so all members of society can benefit from their services.

 

YEG Design

YEG Designs

YEG Design operates in the fashion industry and is an eco-friendly enterprise that uses waste plastics and fabrics to produce bags and shoes. YEG Design has been in operation for 7 years and is aiming to commence large-scale production for corporate institutions in the coming year. They are also seeking trade opportunities with international markets, trade show organisers and bulk purchase customers.

 

Showers Smart School

Shower Smart School

Showers Smart School is a technology based school with a focus on developing IT skills such as coding in students from a young age. The school also encourages its students to learn informal activities such as arts, swimming and gardening. They currently recruit 3 children a year from less fortunate backgrounds to promote equal opportunities for the future generation. The school uses a hybrid system of the British and Ghanaian kindergarten curriculum and has big ambitions to become one of the leading educational bodies in Ghana.

 

Fruities Bar

Fruities Bar

Fuities Bar started as a snack bar and has grown to become an admirable enterprise. They offer products such as smoothies and pastries. Fruities Bar is looking for mentorship support from experts in the food and beverage sector. The enterprise has been operating for 14 months and seeks assistance in developing an innovative marketing and branding strategy to increase sales. They are also looking to improve their financial management.

 

The Revelation Clothing

The Revelation Clothing

The Revelation Clothing was founded in 2013. Operating in the fashion industry, the business offers high-quality tailored women’s and men’s clothes, footwear, bags and purses. It is owned by Mr. William Owusu Bempah Jr., who currently donates some of the company’s profit to local hospitals and orphanages. The business hopes to improve their marketing and in aspects of financial management.
