Meltcast is a manufacturing company that was established in 1992 and is headed by two ambitious positive individuals, Maybin Kombe and Chishimba Bodwin. The company specialises in structural steel fabrication and installation, machining and manufacturing of mining accessories, building and civils works, supply of steel nuts and bolts and more. They service the mines in the Copperbelt and also do various other projects with the government such as the construction of a Kalanga Day Secondary School in Luapula Province. Challenges Worldwide Business Support Associates James Cuxson and Chansa Mukanga are working with Meltcast to help expand their customer base and diversify their business.

They are being supported by Challenges Worldwide Business Support Associates, Florence Kolomoni, Grace Chiweshe, John Sampson, John Lungu.
Active since 2005, Golden Lay is the largest producer of eggs in Zambia. It employs over 300 people, many of whom come from the local area. They also sell eggs to local people with lower income, creating a large social impact. Business Support Associates Joel, Gabby, Joseph and Misozi have been especially involved in improving their HR department in the hopes of improving conditions and atmosphere of all the workers there
Mwape Chola and Zahra Clarke-Johnney have been working for a mother and son butchery called News Farm. Since 2013 News Farms has been providing Zambia with the best quality meat grown on a personal farm in kitwe. They sell a wide range of pork and beef sausages freshly prepared. Through Challenges Worldwide Mwape and Zahra have been helping News Farm as Business Support Associates to diversify and grow the butchery into new markets.
Thochima is a supplier of Personal Protective Equipment, mainly to the mining industries across the Copperbelt. Thochima has been operating for 27 years and have seen a steady expansion; with 3 new branches opening in the past 12 years.
However, the volatility of the mining industry and strong competition from cheaper foreign companies has seen Thochima struggle over the past few years. Challenges Worldwide Business Support Associates Sophie and Emmanuel are trying to help Thochima diversify into new industries.
Ceres bakery is one of the top bakers in Kitwe as well as the Copperbelt province. It was established almost 20 years ago by Philip Varvadocus. Challenges worldwide Business Support Associates Natasha Pertwee and Chisha Mazimba have for the past seven weeks been working for Ceres bakery trying to diversify the business.
Mwansa Simbeye and Jamie Warner have for the past seven weeks been working for Vital Beverages. Vital was established almost 4 years ago by entrepreneur Philip Varvardocus. It produces a number of products from Ice to bottled water of different sizes. Vital is a household name being the third largest producer and distributor of water in Kitwe and the Copperbelt province. Challenges Worldwide Business Support Associates Jamie and Mwansa have been helping Vital Beverages expand its business and market share.
GreenDot is a waste management and recycling company, made up of five enthusiastic individuals. The companies’ ethical values underline all operations; their work towards the reduction of youth unemployment and the promotion of environmental sustainability sets them apart from the competition.
Started in 2016 by Nesmba Mushota (CEO), the company now serves 131 clients and hopes to become the market leader in the recycling industry, in Kitwe, in the next 5 years.

Our Business Support Associates are now nearing the end of their 12-week voluntary placement in these exciting enterprises. Through the UK Government funded Challenges Worldwide ICS programme it is our hope that they will be able to spot opportunities and make recommendations to the business owners that will help them grow their business over the long term.
