Whilst completing your Master’s dissertation, would you like to:

  • Conduct field dissertation research overseas
  • Gain international work experience
  • Support the monitoring and evaluation activities of one of the UK’s most prominent international development organisations?

About us

Challenges Worldwide is an international development organisation with experience in more than 40 developing countries across Africa, Asia and South America.  In the last decade, we have collaborated with several British and American universities to offer their students innovative international placements as part of their degrees. We have now arranged placements for more than 30 University of Edinburgh students through our involvement in the Making the Most of Masters programme.

About the assignments

Next summer, we’ll be offering a limited number of research placements in Ghana, Uganda and Zambia. If successful, you’d spend 8 weeks overseas gaining practical, field-based experience in your chosen sector and be able to explore research questions in a real-life context.  Data gathered can be used in your Master’s dissertation and you’d have the opportunity to feed into our wider programme, tracking how private sector development and enterprise can help improve livelihoods through areas such as improving energy efficiency & sustainability, reducing poverty and empowering women.

We’ll publish a list of the key research themes for Summer 2017 on our website shortly, but it’s likely that topics will be based loosely on the following sectors: Agriculture, Clean Energy, and Craft.
